After Father McMahon’s retirement in 1984, a
new pastor, Father Edward Trzeciakowski, was assigned to the parish. Father Ed led the congregation until 1991. His tenure
was followed by the fiveyear pastorate of Father John Kozar. His tenure was followed by that of Father Joseph Grosko, a former
Navy chaplain with ties to the Brookline neighborhood. Father Grosko, had served Resurrection’s sister parish, Our Lady
of Loreto from 1978 through 1981.
These Pastors served the parish at a very tumultuous time
in the history of the region. The decade of the 1980’s saw the demise of the steel industry and the accompanying changes
in the demographics and economy of this area. The Brookline neighborhood, as well as the city of Pittsburgh at large, saw
a decline in population of about 35—40%. Therefore the parish experienced an equal loss of population and income. In
addition, the Church had been experiencing a significant drop in the umber of priests serving the local Church. L These circumstances
led to some very difficult and sad changes in the life of the parish.
