The Parish Advocate for Persons with Disabilities is a volunteer who acts as a liaison
between persons with disabilities, their parish, and the Diocese of Pittsburgh. The role of the parish advocate is to follow
the example of Christ the Good Shepherd, to assist parishioners who have disabilities, and help to determine their spiritual,
religious and ministerial needs.
Recommended by the pastor, the
parish advocate works with him to welcome and include persons with disabilities into a more active role in the parish.
Sponsored by the Department of Persons with Disabilities and the Secretariat
for Education of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, the goal of the program is to make it possible for persons with disabilities to
fully participate in the life of the Church. The Parish Advocate is a caring, compassionate friend who is sincerely interested
in the well-being of people with disabilities and their inclusion in the life of the parish.
