In Witness of Their Service ...
An ambo is one of the two pulpits used in Christian churches from which parts of
the service are read or chanted. Every Sunday, at every Eucharistic Liturgy, a lone person stands at the ambo to the right
of the sanctuary and looks out over the congregation. This person is a cantor, the one who will lead us in singing
throughout the liturgy. At each Mass the cantor begins by asking the people to pray our special parish prayer asking God to
prepare us for the awesome event that is about to unfold before our eyes. The organ plays the introduction to the entrance
hymn, the cantor raises his/her hand to invite the congregation to join in the singing and the first part of the Liturgy begins.
Leadership, direction, support and guidance are provided the congregation by our cantors so that worshipers will be moved
to more full conscious and active participation in the sung prayer of the assembly.
For their faithful and generous service to the parish, we wish to thank the nine cantors of the Church of the Resurrection.
