The order of Lector from Trent
until Vatican Council II was one of three minor orders which priests received before being ordained a Deacon and then Priest.
With the Liturgical renewal of Vatican II the Church opened the liturgy to more participation of the faithful and the Ministry
of Lector was established. The Church calls men and women to participate in the evangelization ministry of the Church through
the proclamation of the Word of God in our Eucharistic Assembly. It is not a mere reading but a process by which the Lector
studies the Word of God, receives it into his/her heart and then witnesses to that Word and its meaning in the way he/she
proclaims it to the congregation.. The Lector brings the gifts of clarity in reading and meditation of the Word and uses them
in the worship of God. Here at Resurrection we have 18 men and women who minister in this way for the Parish on Sunday and
four women who minister at the weekday liturgies. This ministry is open to anyone who feels called to use the gifts they have
in the worship of God.
For the service of worship they perform
at the Liturgy the parish wishes to thank all the Lectors.
