Brookline Christian Food Pantry
|
 |
The Brookline Christian Food Pantry is a member agency of the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. For the past 25
years, we have been servicing low income families in the Brookline and Dormont area. Our home for the past 15 years has been
Brookline Boulevard United Presbyterian Church. This food bank is run by a group of dedicated volunteers from local churches
who help to meet the needs of over 140 families in the local community. Unfortunately this number will rise during the winter
months. Every month the Food Bank needs 500 cans of soup, 1000 cans of vegetables, 150 jars of spaghetti sauce
and much more. Food items come from donations given by local churches, schools, the annual Boy Scout Food Drive and the annual
Post Office Food Drive. However, cash is needed each month to purchase food from the main food bank and local stores. Some
of this cash comes from community grants but local individuals generously make donations every month for this purpose. These
donations also purchase food certificates for Thanksgiving and toys for Christmas.
Volunteers are urgently
needed to unload deliveries on Thursday and Friday morning before distribution days and on the second Saturday of each month
when they bag and distribute the food beginning at 8 AM. To volunteer for emergency food, contact Mrs. Patricia Erny at 412-344-8451.
If you want to receive food monthly, come on the day of distribution (2nd Saturday of each month) with a driver’s
license or ID, proof of income and a utility bill.

Meals on Wheels
Since 1973 the Brookline Meals on Wheels program has been operating out of St. Mark Lutheran Church. The program, staffed
by volunteers from area churches, feeds from 40 to 70 people Monday through Friday. A hot meal and a sandwich is provided
and delivered to the home. Special diets are available for those who need them. Though the participants pay a minimal fee,
the program is funded by community grants and cash donations from churches and individuals. Volunteers are
needed daily, Monday through Friday in the morning to help in the kitchen, preparing and packing the meals. Drivers and visitors
are needed to deliver the meals beginning around 11 AM. Cash and donations of food such as cookies, desserts, breads, etc
are welcome. To volunteer,or to request meals, call 412-343-8144.
