During the winter months the homeless are especially vulnerable. This month we focus on a ministry to the homeless
located in downtown Pitts-burgh and ask you to consider a response. The information here is from the website http://www.stmaryofmercy.org where you can get further information.
Saint Mary of Mercy Church wishes to respond to Christ's call to share our blessings
with those who are poor, needy and hungry."Jesus felt compassion for the poor gathered
before Him and He fed them" Matthew 14:14-21.
Saint
Mary of Mercy Church, which is located in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh, provides several kinds of assistance
to people in need. The "oldest" of Saint Mary's services is the Red Door Program which began during the Great
Depression. This program provides a bag lunch, Monday through Saturday from 10:30 am to 11:30 am to more
than 100 persons each day. The program is underwritten by Saint Mary of Mercy Church through various contributions made directly
to the Red Door.
